Marijuana buds ( cannabis), hemp plant. Washington State. Legal Medical marijuana law in US.

While cannabis has been grown for thousands of years, growing techniques and technology have advanced in monumental ways during modern times. From ditch weed to indoor hydroponic grows, marijuana cultivation has come a long way.

The advent of legal cannabis has led to businesses spending millions of dollars for the research and development of every nuance of the growing process. While much of this has been due to state compliance laws, which require the tracking of each plant from seed to sale, growers are also looking for ways to make the marijuana of tomorrow more potent and more efficient to grow.

Indoor growing operations (grow ops) have exploded in popularity over the last few decades as it allows the grower to control all the elements that are necessary to produce the highest quality products. Cultivators use lighting that mimics the sun, fans, timers, specially-designed nutrients, and often watering systems or other specialized equipment to recreate nature and provide the plants with everything they need to flourish as though they are growing outdoors under the best possible conditions.

Both large-scale cultivators and at-home beginners with a few plants appreciate the ease of indoor growing – and the end results. So what are the strongest and highest yielding indoor cannabis strains available? Read on to find out.

AK-47

This sativa-dominant hybrid has been a favorite of growers since it debuted in 1992. Its effects are relaxing yet engaging, offering the best of both worlds – one of the best parts of hybrid strains. AK-47 is perfect for indoor growing in either hydroponic or soil set ups and. Plants are moderately tall and wispy, typical reaching between one and two meters in height. The flowering period is around seven-nine weeks, offering an extremely high yield (often between 250 and 500 grams per square meter). The THC content is 14 percent on average, but has been tested as high as 20 percent.

Critical Kush

Critical Kush is a heavily indica strain (only ten percent is sativa) with an earthy flavor and high THC content – some plants have tested at 25 percent. The strain also has a small percentage of CBD, making it mellow and perfect for pain and insomnia. Critical Kush also offers a high yield – the average plant will produce around 400 grams. Average flowering time is 8 weeks and flourishes in a low humidity environment. Buds are dense and large, meaning growers should offer plants a bit of extra wiggle room.

Silver Haze

Another classic sativa, Silver Haze has euphoric and energetic effects. Developed by Sensi Seeds, the plant has gorgeous dense buds covered in tasty trichomes. This strain also has a higher yield (between 250-500 grams), and a 10-12 week flowering time. Plants can get extremely tall, sometimes growing more than two meters high. Expert growers recommend using a hydroponics set-up for Silver Haze in a warm, dry environment.

Superglue

This newcomer may be one of the strongest cannabis strains of all time – it has been tested as high as a staggering 32 percent THC. A cross between Afghani and Northern Lights, Superglue is indica dominant with relaxing and uplifting effects. Plants reach a height between one and two meters and yield between 250 and 500 grams per square meter. Flowering time is around eight weeks on average. This strain is susceptible to mold, meaning growers should have adequate airflow and precise humidity control.

White Widow

White Widow is easily one of the most famous strains in the world, originating in Amsterdam in the early 1990s. The buds are frosty with trichomes and sticky to the touch. The high is described as cerebral and euphoric, giving the user and fun and uplifting experience. Growers of all skills appreciate the ability to grow the strain with ease, especially indoors. Experts recommend using the (((screen of green))) method in order for the best results. Plants can reach between one and two meters in height and typically produce around 100 grams per square meter; flowering time is usually between eight and nine weeks. Despite a lower yield, White Widow is extremely potent – the strain consistently tests between 18 and 25 percent THC.

Sensi Skunk Automatic

This indica-heavy hybrid is much newer than most of the others listed here, having been introduced in 2014. But don’t let its young age fool you – Sensi Skunk became an instant classic due to its ease of cultivation and high yields. The Automatic version is autoflowering, meaning they naturally switch from vegetative growth to the flowering stage with age, as opposed to the ratio of light to dark hours required with photoperiod dependent/short-day strains. Sensi Skunk Automatic typically yields between 250 and 500 grams with a flowering period between six and seven weeks, making it an easy choice among many growers. THC content usually clocks in around 15 percent, offering a mellow and smooth stone perfect for medical patients with anxiety and pain.
