Bottled Water With A Splash

With its increasing legalization and accessibility, it’s an exciting time to be a cannabis enthusiast. Not only can more and more people partake without the fear of being prosecuted, but the marijuana industry’s boom also means that consumers are getting a much broader range of cannabis products to enjoy. And among those products many people are flocking to is CBD-infused water, which is currently seeing massive growth in popularity.

So what, exactly, is this CBD water and what can you expect to gain from drinking it? Let’s break it down.

First, the difference between CBD and THC

Cannabis has two primary chemical compounds: THC and CBD. THC, which stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, is the molecule that gets you high when you ingest marijuana. CBD, on the other hand, stands for cannabidiol and is completely nonpsychoactive, which means ingesting it won’t make you feel intoxicated in any way.

If CBD isn’t psychoactive, why are people so into it?

Even though CBD won’t get you high, it does have very beneficial effects on your body, many of which we’re still in the process of discovering.

Over the past four decades, researchers studying the medical potential of CBD have found that it shows promise by functioning in the following ways:

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antioxidant
  • Neuroprotectant
  • Anxiolytic
  • Antidepressant
  • Analgesic
  • Anti-tumoral agent
  • Anti-psychotic

And while none of those benefits have been proven as of yet, preclinical trials indicate that they carry significant medical potential.

How does CBD work?

As mentioned, CBD is one of the chemical compounds in marijuana known as a cannabinoid. Cannabinoids are what are called agonists, which bind to cell receptors in your body called cannabinoid receptors. Some of these receptors are densely populated in your central nervous system and others can be found in your body’s organs.

When you ingest cannabis, you’re consuming these CBD agonists that will, in turn, connect to different cannabinoid receptors throughout your body, all of which takes place within a system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

Your ECS is responsible for a ton of important daily functions including:

  • Mood
  • Memory
  • Motor control
  • Immune function
  • Reproduction
  • Pain perception
  • Appetit
  • Sleep
  • Bone development

Early research suggests that when you consume CBD, it taps into your ECS to create myriad therapeutic effects including reducing anxiety, pain and inflammation, and enhancing feelings of well-being and relaxation. And some studies suggest that it can be used to treat the symptoms of more severe illnesses such as epilepsy by reducing the frequency of seizures, as well as schizophrenia for its antipsychotic properties.

Now, back to CBD-infused water and what drinking it can do for you

CBD-infused water is just as it sounds: water with CBD in it. Like we said, CBD alone will not get you high (you need THC for that), so don’t expect to feel stoned after drinking it. However, you can still potentially reap a ton of physical benefits from it.

Makers of  CBD-infused water argue that drinking it will reduce pain and muscle soreness due to its anti-inflammatory properties, and it can also reduce feelings of nausea, make it easier to sleep, and boost your overall immune system. Furthermore, the water’s potential to combat muscle soreness and possibly expedite muscle recovery is making it a popular option among active exercisers looking to improve their performance and recovery time while also hydrating themselves in the process.

How CBD-infused water works

If you read anything about CBD-infused water, you’re likely to come across the term nano technology. Nano technology is the process companies use to ensure CBD effectively penetrates your body’s cells.

In a nutshell, nano materials are teeny tiny particles that are believed to make compounds more bio-available (i.e. more effectively absorbed into your body) than larger molecules. Therefore, companies are breaking CBD down into these tiny particles and encasing them in similarly tiny water molecules to deliver the CBD to your body’s cells as efficiently as possible.

How do I get CBD-infused water?

There are a number of companies currently selling CBD-infused water, and more are expected to pop up as it gains popularity. But if you’re looking to try it today, here are your best options:

CBD Naturals – CBDnaturals.com sells Nano H20 Hemp Infused Water that, in addition to CBD, contains CoEnzyme Q10 and vitamin B12 to boost your energy.

EVERx – This company sells CBD-infused water primarily targeted to athletes who are looking to reap its performance-enhancing capabilities, but even couch potatoes can enjoy its benefits.

CBD Living Water – Using the aforementioned nano technology, CBD Living Water is CBD and water that’s pH-balanced at 7.4 to best coincide with your body’s natural pH levels.

Bottom Line

CBD-infused water will not get you stoned because it doesn’t contain the psychoactive ingredient THC. However, drinking it can potentially make you feel more calm and focused (in addition to being hydrated) and might even improve your muscle recovery after working out, reduce inflammation, combat feelings of depression, and help you sleep more soundly at night.
