Plant extraction has been around for thousands of years, being used to create essential oils, food flavorings, and nutraceuticals – just to name a few. Eden Labs is one of the world-leaders in the development of modern distillation and extraction equipment, and offers both technical and consulting services to their many clients. The company’s deep-rooted experience has led the company to set the gold standard in the space.

CFN Media recently sat down with AC Braddock, CEO of Eden Labs, regarding the exploding cannabis extraction market and how the company is poised to dominate domestically and across the globe.

Rachelle Gordon: What is Eden Labs?

AC Braddock: Eden engineers extraction and distillation equipment for multiple botanical industries, including cannabis. We also provide process development to help companies unleash the components in plants to create the products that companies are building their business models on. Eden Labs takes the products our clients want and we work backwards to figure out what kind of processing assistance that they may need. Eden is also a Team of highly intelligent people who have a wide variety of skill sets and back grounds. We work in a culture of collaboration and individual accountability. This reveals itself in our products and our customer service. All of this has built a brand we are very proud of and continue to expand by positively influencing industries and communities.

RG:  What sets Eden Labs apart from potential competitors?

AB:  Longevity, vision and connectivity. We pioneered the extraction space in Cannabis for instance. We still have the most efficient technology, and we’re continually improving it. In the modern world, I think it is crucial that businesses are connected with consumers and trends in a way that is directly associated with mission statement, and modern business practice, like being a socially responsible corporate entity. That has really made our brand unbelievably strong and respected and has also created a tremendous amount of trust.

Another thing that makes us unique is our extensive knowledge in of all kinds botanical extractions. We have made systems for flavoring companies, Bio-fuels, herbal liquors and the nutraceutical market, which is a $200-plus billion industry worldwide, and it is also one of the fastest growing markets. It’s very similar to cannabis, where you’re taking plants and using them nutritionally and medicinally to promote health and wellness, and to substitute synthetic products that people are tired of putting in and on their bodies.

That is our mission as a company – to be able to push that technology through multiple different industries and scale them. Having been in the space so long, we have focused our growth around the growth of the industries we support and especially the expansion of our clients, by providing industrial systems. For example, 6000-liter industrial systems for hops or hemp. You’re going to need to a system that size in order to do hemp, because there’s not a lot of oil in the plant material, so you have to scale the extraction process considerably. The superior efficiencies of scale for supercritical co2 has been proven in the hops industry, but small-scale systems are essential for R&D, start-ups, and launching new products. Therefore, Eden Labs creates systems anywhere from 1 liter to 6,000 liters. There’s many different supply chain opportunities and also scalability. Some of those larger systems run anywhere from $10 million to $18 million.

RG:  What are your projections for growth?

AB:  Our current focus is definitely, on international growth, and providing scalable solutions so that our successful customers are able to expand and grow their businesses. As hemp continues to be legalized, there is going to be an even larger demand for extraction services. The next few years have a hockey stick growth projection for cannabis, both recreationally and medically. They’re both very different markets, and both have an impressive and exciting potential for growth. The majority of the market is changing and it will eventually be focused on people over the age of 50 and women; we’ve barely scratched the surface on this market with those demographics.

RG: What should potential business partners/investors know about Eden Labs?

AB:  In our 22 year existence, we have been completely self-funded. However, we are now looking for investments. We’re currently between a $10 million and $20 million company, which is a plateau level for most companies. We have a couple of projects on deck and could easily do $50 million in a year if we had the right partners.

We’ve been approached with investment offers before and I’m often asked, “what would that look like? Would that be an acquisition, would that be a majority interest? The answer completely depends on what the other company brings to the table. Because of our experience and capabilities, we want “smart money”.  An Entity or person that could fill in places where we are limited or lacking to create a true powerhouse of innovation, experience and manufacturing. There’s a certain type of synergy that is imperative in a partnership that we haven’t quite found yet. However, we’re still hoping and investigating, because we do have a couple of new products that we want to launch that are possibly quite disruptive.
