West Point Begins Cannabix Marijuana Breathalyzer Development

West Point Resources Inc. [stockquote symbol=BLO:CNX], developer of the patent-pending Cannabix Marijuana Breathalyzer for law enforcement, employers, and other end markets, recently announced that it has selected a prototype development firm based in British Columbia to complete the initial version of its Cannabix Marijuana Breathalyzer in conjunction with its engineering team.
“I am excited to have the funding in place and to move forward on developing this much needed product for the law enforcement market,” said West Point Resources Inc.’s Dr. Raj Attariwala. “We have identified the major components for the marijuana breathalyzer collection device and are moving quickly to develop our prototype.”
The Cannabix Marijuana Breathalyzer drug-impairment recognition system is based on breath testing technology that has been developed in Sweden and has been clinically researched to be successful in testing individuals for recent consumption of the THC component of marijuana. Management plans to initially sell the device to law enforcement agencies in order to fill a key void in the marketplace.
“We are fast tracking the development of the marijuana breathalyzer and have expedited the development process,” said West Point Resources Inc. President Kal Mahli. “We have chosen a prototype manufacturer that is capable of moving quickly with development and has vast experience with similar technologies. We have received significant interest for our device and will be updating shareholders.”
In addition to the law enforcement market, the company plans to introduce the device to employers interested in testing employees for intoxication. The breathalyzer market as a whole was estimated to be worth $284.6 million in 2011 by Wintergreen Research, which expects the market to expand to $3.2 billion by 2018 due to new breath analysis markets, including healthcare and cannabis.
